Weekly Roundup 20/8/23
SATURDAY: Another wintery day kept some away for this month’s Par event on Saturday, while come for around 4pm there were a few that wished they had stayed away with (in keeping with the trend in recent Par rounds) only two players finishing with a plus at the front of their score.
Peter Sherman put together the day’s best round of +4 to take out B grade comfortably by four shots from Craig Larcombe who finished all square.
Helen Armstrong was the other player on the right side of the ledger with +2 and she finished five shots clear of Clare Kerr and Von Morris who both had rounds of -3 with Clare getting the nod in the count back for runner up.
Gordon Mackay’s score of -1 was good enough to get him across the line in A grade, albeit in a much tighter contest with Mick Coyne and David Collins snapping at his heels one shot back with scores of – 2.
Mick got the better of David in the count back for runner up and both men had some success on the Par threes with David picking up the NTP the Pin on the 3rd and Mick the voucher on the 15th ; both converting their tee shots into pars.
Trudy Denham picked up the ladies Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd but there was no damage to the 12th green from the tee.
Ball comp winners were Paul Dickens (-1), Lindsay Tatterson (-1), David Collins (-2) and Steve Usher (-3).
TUESDAY MENS: Earlier in the week, the man with no first name Pooch McHale claimed his third win in a row taking out Tuesday’s A grade event with 37 points from Peter Mangan with 33.
Geoff Strachan was the B grade winner, also with 37 points, while Craig Larcombe was the runner up with 35 points.
Ball comp winners were Kerry Kreeck with 34 points, Kevin Bauerle (33) and Gordon Mackay (33).
Daryl Harrison picked up the A grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th went to Mick McAuliffe.
Next week’s event is the Annual Cooper-Buckle 4BBB Stableford event.
Phil and John have been sponsoring this day for a decade or more and always have a generous range of trophies up for grabs so make sure you have a partner and get along by 1130am for the midday start.

WEDNESDAY LADIES: The sisters were on fire! Jenni Bauerle and Leanne Busch clocked up 38 points in the Doris Chambers Foursomes this week, but you have to be in it to win it, so it will be Judy Greer and Von Morris who will represent our club at Sanctuary Lakes in November to compete in the final. Judy and Von, on 32 points, won the countback from Marie Watt and Robyn Curnow.
No one landed on the 15th, but Von had a nice shot onto the 12th, and Judy sank an impressive putt to secure a birdie.
The event was generously sponsored by Hurleys Bar and Bistro.
Next Thursday Jewellery Day will see players from around the district competing for some beautiful bracelets from Kyabram's Showcase Jewellers.
The following week our golfers are carpooling to Rich River for our annual "bus trip".
On Friday 1 September we are combining with Parkland for a "Swinging for Cancer" fundraiser.
