Weekly Roundup 18 December 2022
Saturday
No time for inane weather reports or visitor roll calls to start this week’s report for there has been upheaval at the View after Saturday’s scheduled Par event was controversially changed to Stableford with a couple of Match & Handicap members going “rogue” in making the decision without the captain’s knowledge.
While the official Match & Handicap line after Saturday’s play was that all is well in the office, Free Press readers should stay tuned in the New Year as my sources tell me there is more to play out in this matter following the usurping of the captain’s authority in such a blatant manner.
To the golf results now and the strange happenings weren’t confined to the office with Paul Kuiper backing up last week’s 38 point win with another 36 points to take out A grade in a count back from the luckless Peter Blackmore.
I say “strange” because I played with Paul just a few weeks ago and I can only say it is testimony to his resilience that he could arrest the form slump that he was in, in such a short space of time.
In B grade Johnny Heywood put together the best score in the men’s field with 38 points which gave him a two-shot win from Gavon Armstrong and John Neale with 36 points and it would be fair to say that Gavon took some Christmas joy from outdoing Nails in the count back for runner up.
The best score of the day came from Tracey Wade with an excellent score of 40 points and she was the ladies’ winner from Helen Emery with 39 points.
Wanda Hacon lead the ball comp recipients with 37 points while other ball comp winners were John Neale with 36 points, Mick Coyne (35), Les Hall (35), Sharon Harrison (35), Alan Hausler (35), Geoff Squires (35) and Judy Greer (35).
Nearest the Pin trophies were hard to come by with no player able to hit the target on the 3rd, though Dylan Gallivan (A grade) and Helen Emery were on the money on the 12th as was Rory Kerr who on the voucher on the 15th.
The other notable occurrence was Ash Kuiper’s Eagle on the par five 5th.
Tuesday’s scores were also pretty good with Gordon Mackay returning to the winner’s list in A grade with 39 points from Kelly Cheong with 38 points.
Peter Sherman was the B grade winner with the best score on the day of 40 points from Alan Curnow with 38.
Balls went to Steve March (35 points), Geoff Squires 34), Kevin Humbert (34) and Jeff “Slim Perry also with 34 points.
Geoff Strachan won the B grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd, the A grade NTP ball went begging as did the voucher on the 15th.
It will be business as usual next Saturday (Christmas Eve) with the usual tee off times for what I’m told WILL be a Par event!!
On that note I would take this opportunity to wish our members and Ky Free Press readers a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
