Weekly Golf Roundup - 19/11/23
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ash Kuiper has held off Miles Gould in a tense final round to take out his fourth Valley View Club Champion title by two shots.
Taking a one-shot lead into the final round Ash posted a round of 77 off the stick while Miles finished with a score 78.
After both players bogeyed the first Ash set up his win with a hat trick of birdies on the second, third and fourth holes. With Miles making par-bogey-par on the same holes Ash suddenly had extended his lead to five shots.
Miles grabbed a shot back on the par five eighth but gave it straight back with a bogey four on the ninth.
This scenario was replayed on the 10th and 11th holes with Ash giving up a shot with a bogey on ten and Miles again surrendering it with a bogey on the 11th.
Miles picked up shots on the 15th, 16th and 18th with pars and Ash stumbled with bogeys but by that stage Ash had done enough to secure his two-shot win.
The very consistent Mick Gallivan picked up the A grade handicap title (his first) after a final round of 86-16-70 gave him a three total of 264 Nett 216.
Miles, playing off a handicap of seven again fell two shots short with a three-round score of 239 Nett 218.
Peter Noble finished a further shot back with Nett 219, double bogeys on the 15th and last killing off his chances as he finished with a final round of 83-12-71.
The B grade handicap event went down to the final hole with Ian Scurrah’s final round of 101-29-72 (aggregate 310-87-223) squeezing out Alan Hausler (284-60-224) who had led after both of the first two rounds by one shot.
After a Nett 69 in the first round, a second round of Nett 80 proved costly for Haus’ before he finished the final round with 95-20-75.
Haus’ had the chance to take things to a count back on the last hole but could not nail his short putt.
Ron Dixon finished next best with a three round Nett score of 227.
In the Junior event Wil Harrison took a one-shot lead into the final round over Jonty Sefton and a score of 91-23-68 allowed Wil to pick up his second Junior title by a comfortable margin.
