Weekly Golf Report 24/8/25

The leaderboard in Saturday’s Stableford event featured close results in all grades starting with A grade where Kevin Bauerle and Steve Usher both finished with 37 points in an underwhelming result among the members at Presentation!!

KB shaded Steve in the countback (which the duty team made harder work of than may have been necessary!) thanks to a back nine score of 19 points, one better than Steve’s 18 points.

The margin was one shot in B grade with Archer Backway the winner with 33 points from Laurie Radley with 32 points. Laurie successfully fended off John Burrows and John Neale in the countback for second as the two John’s made do with balls in the ball comp.

Young Archer was clearly not happy with the win or his score immediately taking to the course to play more holes.

Von Morris won the ladies’ event by two shots posting a score of 35 points with Marie Watt the runner up with 33 points. One further shot back it was good to see the persistent Lynne Gannivan picking up a ball in the ball comp.

Other ball comp winners were Peter Mangan with 33 points, Steve Browne (33), Pooch McHale (31) and Geoff Squires (31).

Nearest the Pin trophy winners on the par three holes were Mick Gallivan (A grade 3rd), Laurie Radley (B grade 3rd), David Collins (B grade 12th), Von Morris (3rd), Jenni Bauerle (12th) and Peter Costello (15th) with no conversions to birdie though all bar Von made their pars.

Wil Harrison won the best second shot on the ninth, deftly chipping in for birdie.

There are no words (positive in nature at least) to describe the scoring in Tuesday’s round with the best score posted by Pooch McHale who took out A grade with 34 points with a four-shot margin from Daryl Harrison who finished as runner up in a countback from Mick Gallivan with 30 points.

Peter Sherman won B grade with 31 points in a countback from Tony Williams who also added balls for Nearest the Pin on the 3rd and 12th and Nearest Second Shot on the ninth to his runner’s up trophy.

Mick Gallivan with his 30 points led the ball comp which also featured Geoff Strachan, John Burrows, Bud Thorsen and Ron Dixon each with 29 points.

Mick McAuliffe won the A grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd (welcome back Mick) and Peter Lyon claimed the voucher on the 15th.

This Saturday is the annual Cooper – Buckell 4BBB Stableford event,  the day kicking off with a BBQ lunch from 11am before registration at 11.30am and tee off at midday.

Phil and John always have a very generous array of trophies on offer so make sure you find yourself a good partner for the day.
