Weekly Golf Report - 16.6.24

Despite perfect conditions there is little to write home about from Saturday’s Stableford event with the only real bright spot being Paul Kuiper’s seven iron to the par 3 third hold that finished just centimetres from the cup.

In reality Paul came almost as close to an ace as his beloved Collingwood came to losing to North Melbourne on Sunday; a result that would have put a very different spin on this column and the reporting of Paul’s near ace.

Unfortunately, the shot which won Paul a dozen jackpot balls and left him with the easiest of tap in birdies, was not enough to prevent him losing a countback for A grade runner up to his brother, Ash.

The other big highlight for the week came in Tuesday’s event which was dominated by the future of the club in Wil Harrison and Jonty Sefton as they finished first and second with 40 and 38 points respectively and no doubt improved their handicaps a touch further along the way.

As I said there is nothing much else to write home about so the week’s results in summary are:

Saturday:

A Grade winner: Peter Blackmore (H’cap 16) 35 points

A Grade R/Up: Ash Kuiper (5) 34 points in countback from Paul Kuiper (15) 34 points

Nearest the Pin: Paul Kuiper (3rd)

B Grade winner: Stephen Browne (19) 34 points

B Grade R/Up: John Burrows (29) 30 points

Nearest the Pin: G Squires (3rd)

Ladies’ winner: Sharon Harrison (23) 35 points

Ladies’ R/Up: Marlene Topp (35) 34 points

A big thanks to Andrew and Melissa Porch and the team at Ky Hire and Batteries for their very generous sponsorship of this week’s event as they continue a longstanding and greatly appreciated relationship with the club.

Tuesday:

Winner: Will Harrison (16) 40 points

R/Up: Jonty Sefton (17) 38 points

Balls: Pooch McHale (35 points), Daryl Harrison (33) and Ian Scurrah (NTP 3rd).

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF REPORT:

A PAR round, generously sponsored by The Camel Milk Company, was played in very cold conditions last Wednesday. Two players, one in each grade were unfazed by the temperature.

In A Grade Janice Johnstone had easily the best score of the day with two up, eight shots clear of Helen Emery who was runner up on a count back from Sharon Harrison, six down.

B Grade winner, Von Morris was also a clear winner when she finished one down. Runner up, Shirley Soares echoed the A Grade runner up score when she also was six down.

Nearest the pins went to Jenni Bauerle in A Grade and Von Morris in B Grade.
