Golf - Weekly Roundup 26/11/23
SATURDAY: After an injury and illness plagued 2023 Peter Blackmore returned to his best taking an early lead in after Saturday’s first round of the 2023-2024 Summer Cup.
The Richard Clapton look-alike posted the day’s best score of 39 points to take out A grade from good friend Lawrie Casey and House of Harrison founder Graeme Harrison who both had 38 points, the count back for runner up going Lawrie’s way.
Also, with a score of 38 points, Gavon Armstrong enjoyed a comfortable four shot win in B grade with Jeff “Cobba” Carnie the runner up with 34 points.
The ladies’ found the windy conditions a little tricker with Jenni Baurle and Helen Armstrong the best with 31 points as the countback fell Jenni’s way.
In a very generous ball comp, ball winners were Harro with his 38 points, Gordon Mackay (36), Kevin Bauerle (36), Peter Sherman (33), John Heywood (33), Bud Thorsen (33), Pooch McHale (33) and David Collins (33).
Pooch McHale had a good day on the par 3 holes picking up the A grade nearest the pin on the third and the voucher on the 15th. Geoff Strachan won the B grade nearest the pin on the third but the nearest the pin trophies for the ladies and the 12th stayed with the club.
Tuesday’s golfers managed to complete their rounds and scramble to safety just in time to beat some hail stones all the while posting some very good scores.
Mick McAuliffe won A grade with 41 points in a countback from Mick Coyne while Ron Dixon took out B grade with 38 points from Geoff Strachan with 37 points.
Mick Coyne had a very good day adding the A grade nearest the pin ball on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th to his runner’s up trophy.
Ron Dixon won the B grade nearest the pin ball.
An unlucky Daryl Harrison had to settle for a ball with the excellent score of 40 points while Neville Vicary and Geoff Squires picked up the remaining balls with 36 points.
This week’s event is the December Monthly Medal and sees the start of our split times for the summer with morning assembly at 8am and the usual 1130am assembly for the afternoon golfers.
From next Tuesday the assembly time will move to 930am for a 10am tee off.
