GOLF Weekly Report 9/3/25
Saturday’s round saw the return of Steve Usher after over a twelve-month layoff through illness and “The Confident One” wasted no time making his mark taking out A grade with an excellent round of 38 points.
Steve set up his round with an excellent seven-hole stretch where he parred holes three, four, five, six, seven and nine - a stretch that yielded 17 of his 20 front nine points.
Another man who has missed some golf of late, Miles Gould, finished two shots behind Steve with 36 points and took out the A grade runner’s up trophy.
Meanwhile the day’s best score came from Paul Pappin who won B grade with a score of 40 points after a 22-point front nine that included five three-point holes and one four-point score.
Kevin Wootton who has been among the leaderboard action a lot of late took out the B grade runner’s up trophy with another very good score of 38 points and surely his handicap will take a hit soon.
Jenni Bauerle took out the ladies’ comp with 35 points in a countback from Tracey Wade.
Balls in the ball comp went to Lawrie Casey with 35 points, Ron Dixon (35), Jeff Carnie (35), Ian Scurrah (35), Mick McAuliffe (34), Glenn Laity (34) and John Burrows (34).
Mick McAuliffe won both of the A grade Nearest the Pin balls; Paul Pappin found the mark on the 12th to take the B grade NTP ball on that hole while David Collins won the voucher on the 15th before converting that into a par from about eight feet.
Tuesday’s midweek round saw Peter Blackmore take out A grade with 38 points from good “friend” Lawrie Casey with 36 points. Blackers also won the A grade Nearest the Pin ball on the third.
Alan Hausler was the B grade winner with 36 points while Garey Jurey took out the runner’s up trophy in a countback from John Neale with each of those gents posting scores of 35 points. Gary also won the voucher on the 15th along the way.
Ron Dixon won the B grade Nearest the Pin ball on the third while balls in the ball comp went to Daryl Harrison, Pooch McHale and John Neale (all 35 points) along with Jeff Carnie, Rory Kerr and Laurie Radley with 34 points each.
A reminder that our Opening Day is coming up on 22 March with the traditional Mixed Pinehurst Medley being the main event. There will also be an individual Stableford event the men that are unable to find partners for the Pinehurst.
In a big double header weekend, the annual Ern Healey Memorial 4BBB will be held on Sunday 23 March. Entry is $60 per pair and should be texted to Daryl Harrison on 0408 369 705

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF : Valley View Women played a Stroke and Medal round for Opening Day of the new season of golf last Wednesday. Hurley’s Bar and Bistro was our very generous sponsor for the day.
Julie Neale was the winner in A Grade with 100-24-76, two shots clear of Jenni Bauerle who was runner up with 94-16-78. Nearest the pin was Tracey Wade.
In B Grade, Judy Greer returned the best score of the day with 99-25-74. Marie Watt 109-31-78 was runner up on a count back from Gill Thorsen 107-29-78. Nearest the pin was Sharon Harrison.
Helen Emery had the least putts with 26 putts.
Jenni Bauerle won A Grade Scratch with 94. Judy Greer won the B Grade Scratch with 99 and was awarded the first Monthly Medal of the season for her 74 Nett.
