GOLF - Weekly Report 16/3/25

SATURDAY:

The Confident One, Steve Usher, has wasted no time in making up for lost time after a lengthy layoff taking out his second win as many weeks at the weekend.

Steve posted the same winning score as last week, 38 Stableford points, though I’m told he took the foot off the gas toward the end of the round in a calculated gamble to protect his generous 13 handicap.

On a stinking hot day Usher was the only player to outplay the handicapper with Kelly Cheong taking out the runner’s up trophy with 35 points from Mick Gallivan.

Unlike the weather, the scoring in B grade was decidedly cool with John Canavan taking out his first win with the club with a score of 33 points.

Marlene Topp wound back the clock taking out the ladies’ event with 35 points.

Toppy had five shots to spare from Wendy Cox who finished as the runner up with 30 points.

Balls in the ball comp went to Mick Gallivan and Alex Kydd with 35 points apiece, Lawrey Casey (34) and Peter Blackmore and Peter Mangan (another returning after a long layoff) with 33 points each.

On the Par three’s Pooch McHale (A grade 3rd), Alex Kydd (A grade 12th), John Canavan (B grade 3rd) and Ian “Bomber” Rathjen (B grade 12th) won NTP Balls while Lawrey Casey came within centimetres of an ace winning the voucher on the 15th before nervously tapping in for birdie.

Tuesday’s A grade winner was Jony Sefton with 38 points from Daryl Harrison with 37 points while Les Hall took out B grade with 37 points from Laurie Radley with 36 points.

Ball comp winners were Rich River’s Richard Caiolfa with 36 points, Ian “Tommy” Scurrah with 35 points and Mick Coyne and John Burrows with a pair of 33-point scores.

Richard Caiolfa (3rd) and Steve Piggott (12th) won the A grade Nearest the Pin balls while Jeff Carnie picked up the B grade Nearest the Pin ball on the third.

A reminder this week is our Opening Day with the main event being a Mixed Pinehurst Medley complimented by a Stableford event for our unmatchable bachelors.

Anyone looking for a partner for the Pinehurst Medley should contact Gavon Armstrong on 0419 097 494.

The day will start with a BBQ lunch at 11am with Assembly at 1130am for the usual midday tee off.
