Golf Weekly Report 3/3/2024
SATURDAY: There was a good turnout for Saturday’s Medal round with the afternoon golfers in particular battling a strong southerly that gusted at times up to 40km.
As a result, only one player, David Collins, was able to better his handicap as he took home the March Monthly Medal with a round of 88-17-71, his first medal win since July 2020.
Although David felt he “hadn’t played that well” his consistency was the key factor in his win with a pair of 44’s on each nine and nothing worse than a double bogey on his card.
His score also gave him a comfortable four shot buffer in A grade and a two short margin in the race for the medal from Geoff Strachan who won B grade with 95-22-73 in a countback from the emerging talent in Jonty Sefton. Jonty took the runner’s up trophy with a round of 92-19-73 and also won the B grade best gross score ball.
It was a day for countbacks with Miles Gould (84-9-75) the A grade runner up from Kelly Cheong with Kelly Cheong also with 84-9-75 while Sharon Harrison won a countback with 96-24-72 from Clair Kerr (97-25-72) in the ladies’ comp.
Ball comp winners were Julie Neale with Nett 73, Jenni Bauerle (73), Tracey Wade (74), Helen Emery (74), Judy Greer (74), Les Hall (74) and Craig Larcombe (75).
Mick McAuliffe had the best gross score of the day (84) and Jenni Bauerle had the best gross score for the ladies with 89 of the stick.
Nearest the Pin trophy winners were Graeme Harrison (A grade 3rd), Pooch McHale (A grade 12th), Lindsay Tatterson (B grade 3rd), Craig Larcombe (B grade 12th), Jenni Bauerle (12th) and Helen Emery (15th).
On Tuesday Peter Mangan took out A grade with 39 points in a count back from Peter Nobe while Peter Sherman had yet another B grade Tuesday win with the day’s best score of 41 points.
Lindsay Tatterson was the B grade runner up with 36 points.
Ball winners were Pooch McHale (38), Daryl Harrison (37), Ron Dixon (35) and David Collins (35).
Kelly Cheong and Geoff Strachan won the Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd hole.
Finally, on a sad note the Club lost another former long term member last week with the passing of Richard Isaac.
The Isaac name is synonymous with Valley View with Richard’s father Dick being the inaugural club President and the family being the sponsor of one our honour board events.
Naturally, the Club extends its sincerest condolences to Richard’s wife Di and the extended Isaac family.
SCOOP
LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF : The extreme heat last Wednesday limited the number of players participating. A small group chose to start a little earlier to play 18 holes. Tracey Wade played excellent golf to return 42 points.
Other players chose to play 9 holes. Marie Watt played to her par wth 18 points. Here's hoping the weather is kinder to us for future Wednesdays.
