Weekly roundup 15th October 22

As with most courses in the region the 90mm of rain that fell over Wednesday and Thursday resulted in the closure of our course forcing the cancellation of Saturday’s round.

Earlier in the week Kevin Bauerle was the A grade winner on Tuesday with 36 points in a countback from President Mick McAuliffe.

In B grade Geoff Strachan’s round of 35 points saw him a three-shot winner from Ian Scurrah who won the runner’s up trophy with 32 points in a count back from Les Hall.

Balls went to the exceptionally consistent Kelly Cheong with 35 points, Graeme Harrison (35), Pooch McHale (34) and Alan Hausler (33).

Harro and Strachannie won the Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd while the voucher on the 15th was won by Kevin Humpbert.

With a large part of the Goulburn and Murray Valleys under water our best wishes go out to our golfing friends (and wider communities in general) in areas such as Shepparton, Mooroopna, Kialla, Echuca Rochester and Bendigo.

Finally, the club extends its condolences to Cheryl and Peter Noble on the loss of Cheryl’s father Basil earlier in the week.

Ladies Golf Results

Wednesday 12 th October 2022

Persistent rain again led to play being abandoned at Valley View last Wednesday.  We hope that the weather is kinder today, so that our monthly medal round can be played (ended up another washout).  Next Monday we will begin our Summer Pennant 4ball season, with a match against Hill Top at Shepparton.

Golf is said to be a game that can be played for life. We remember our friend, Dot Bennett who certainly proved that to be true. At 92 years of age Dot was still playing golf with us. Her recent passing came just after her 93rd birthday.
Over the years, Dot played regularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays and at district events.  She was a member of numerous Pennant teams and hosted teams at her home to celebrate the end of each season. We celebrated Dot's life at Valley View with her family and friends including her golfing friends and her friends from the horse fraternity, and remembered her dedicated nursing career which she began at a very early age.   A keen supporter of the Richmond Tigers, Dot was "strong and bold" to the end. We will miss her at Valley View.

Some exciting results from  Golf Australia Vic Spring Tournament held over 10th & 11th October at Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance.  Great effort Helen Emery winning the B Grade Scratch  total 186 (28pts at Lakes and 40 pts Bairnsdale).  For full results : Events Calendar | Golf Australia
