Buckell & Cooper 4 BBB Stableford
A good field and an ideal 18 degree day turned out for Saturday’s Cooper–Buckell 4 BBB Stableford event.
As seems to happen with 4 Ball events the winners were last minute pairings, arriving at the course without designated partners and this was the case on Saturday with Mick Coyne and Des Partington combining perfectly for a score of 45 points.
In a very even performance Mick and Des both contributed to their card on nine holes each and they won in a count back from Mooroopna’s Brad Murray and Craig Larcombe thanks to a 24 point back nine.
While Mick and Des both made even contributions to their card the same could not be said of Brad and Craig (also a last minute pairing) with Brad scoring 18 of their 22 points on the back nine.
Brad also picked up a dozen jackpot balls with a superb pitching wedge from the tee to within half a metre of the cup on the par 3 third before tapping in for an easy birdie.
In the ladies’ comp Helen Armstrong and Sharon Harrison scored a two-shot win with 39 points from Jenni Bauerle and Leanne Busch with 37 points.
Some good scores in the ball comp too with Mick Cromie and Ed McQuienn (43), John McHale and Kevin Bauerle (42) and John Burrows and David Collins (42) all taking home balls.
Nearest the Pin winners were Brad Murray with his shot on the 3rd, David Collins (12th), Geoff Squires (B grade – 3rd), Sharon Harrison (12th) and Mick Coyne on the 15th on the way to knocking in his birdie putt from about five feet.
A very big thanks to Phil Cooper and John Buckell for their generous support over a long period of time with this event now one of the higher profile days on our calendar.
Tuesday’s winner was Kevin Bauerle with 35 points from Kelly Cheong 32 who won the runner’s up trophy in a count back from Pooch McHale.
Pooch (32 points), Kevin Humbert (31) and David Collins (31) won balls in the ball comp while the Nearest the Pin trophies went begging.
The club again farewelled one of its stalwarts last week with the passing our last remaining Life Member in Bess Woods. While I did not know Bess personally, she was a much-respected figure at the club and our condolences go out to Bess’ family at this sad time.
Next week’s event will be a Stableford event with the September Monthly Medal round deferred for a week due coring and sand of the greens this week.
