Weekly Roundup 11 December 2022
Neville Vickery, a recently signed member, has wasted no time making his mark at the club posting a score of 42 Stableford points in Saturday’s second round of the Summer Cup.
Playing off a handicap of 21 Neville’s score was the best of the day and gave him a two-shot win in B grade from the ever-consistent Geoff Strachan who’s round of 40 points would see him with the winner’s trophy on most weeks.
Meanwhile a day at the Australian open last weekend must have enabled Paul Kuiper to gain some useful pointers as he arrested a recent form slump to win A grade with 38 points.
Paul also finished with a two-shot buffer from runner up Mick McAuliffe with 36 points; Mick taking the runner’s up trophy in a count back from Kevin Bauerle.
Wanda Hacon won the ladies’ comp with 36 points by one shot from Tracey Wade and Marlene Topp (35 points each) with the count back falling Tracey’s way.
Ball comp winners were Craig Larcombe with 38 points, Paul Dickens (37), Jim Hind (36), Kevin Bauerle (36), Rory Kerr (36) and Des Partington (36).
The Nearest the Pin trophies went to Kevin Humbert (A grade 3rd), Ash Kuiper (A grade 12th), Ray Brereton (B grade 12th), Helen Emery (3rd), Tracey Wade (12th) and Wanda Hacon (15th).
On Tuesday Peter Noble put together an excellent round of 37 points to take out A grade from Kevin Humber with 36 points.
Another recently signed member in Jim Hind was a comfortable winner in B grade with 40 points from Gary Jury with 36.
Bud Thorsen (35 points), Gordon Mackay (34), John Burrows (34), Geoff Squires (34) and Jeff Carnie (34) picked up balls in the ball comp.
Kevin Humber and Gary Jurey added Nearest the Pin balls (3rd) to their runner’s up vouchers while Les Hall won the voucher on the 15th.
Congratulations to Daryl Harrison and Ed McQuienn who finished as runner’s up in the 2022 National Match Play Golf challenge at Cape Shank recently.
After going three down after four holes the guys worked their way back to square before losing 1 down to their opponents from Mackay who were playing off 14 (Ed off 9 and Daryl off 10 giving them four and five shots respectively). A great effort.
