Golf - weekly roundup 3/12/23
SATURDAY:
Alan Hausler put aside the disappointment of his finish in the Club Championships a fortnight ago to take out the December Monthly Medal at the weekend.
In trying afternoon conditions Haus took out his first Monthly Medal in almost four years with a round of 90-19-71 finishing one shot clear of four players who posted rounds of Nett 72.
After early pars on the first, third and seventh Haus had to steady his round after double bogeys on eight and nine and a triple bogey on the tenth. But steady he did with par on the par four 11th the only other real blemish on his card being a double bogey seven at the par five 14th before a solid bogey, bogey, par, bogey finish.
The three unlucky men to finish one shot back were A grade winner Graeme Harrison (87-15-72), A grade runner up Paul Kuiper (89-17-72), B grade runner up Brendan Cornwall (99-27-72) and Ron Dixon who lost the countback for B grade runner up with 96-24-72.
Wendy Cox took out the ladies’ event with 108-34-74 by three shots from Wanda Hacon with 103-26-77.
Ball comp winners were Ron Dixon (Nett 72), Peter Nelson (73), John Neale (73), Les Hall (74), Pooch McHale 974), Mick Coyne (75), Lawrie Casey (75) and Gordon Mackay (75).
Pooch (83), Haus (90) and Helen Emery (100) won the best gross score balls (Helen in a countback from Tracey Wade).
Mick Coyne (3rd) and Pooch McHale (12th) won the A grade nearest the pin balls (none of the B graders or ladies could find the greens) while Lakes Entrance’s Bill Fry won the voucher on the 15th.
TUESDAY: Graeme Harrison was a comfortable winner on Tuesday with 40 points as he goes from strength to strength while Les Hall took out the runner’s up trophy with 36 points in a countback from Geoff Squizzy Squires.
Balls went to Squizzy, Mick McAuilffe (35 points) and Kevin Humber (35).
This week’s event is the 2nd Round of the Summer Cup with a reminder of the dual tee times of 8am assembly for 830am hit off in the morning and 1130am assembly for midday hit off for the sleepy heads.
