GOLF - Weekly report 4/2/24
SATURDAY: After hovering around the A grade cut off threshold of an 18 handicap for some time, Paul “Dicko” Dickens has firmly entrenched himself in the top tier with a round of 86-18-68 on Saturday taking home the February monthly medal in the process.
As a result, he dropped his handicap by two shots to an impressive (though not to his pennant captain and partner) figure of 16.
Dicko won the medal by one shot from the A Grade runner up in Peter Blackmore who posted an excellent round of his own with 84-15-69.
Two other A graders in Kevin Humbert and Kelly Cheong finished a further shot back with rounds of Nett 70 and picked up balls in the ball comp.
Our B graders weren’t really in the hunt with Jeff Carnie finishing best with 93-20-73 and taking the winner’s trophy in a countback from Peter “Penguin” Nelson who had a round of 107-34-73.
Judy Greer won the ladies’ event with 99-24-75 by one shot from Von Morris with 10-26-76.
Other ball comp winners were Laurie Bradley with Nett 71, Kevin Bauerle (74), Rod Breen (74), Paul Kuiper (75), Lawrie Casey (75) and Gordon Mackay (75).
Trophy winners on the par three holes were Rod Breen (A grade 3rd), Paul Kuiper (A grade 12th) and Dicko who added the voucher on the 15th to his medal win.
To Tuesday’s results and Will Harrison has wasted no time in settling into A grade as he won a count back from Bud Thorsen with 39 points.
Jonty Sefton was the B grade winner with 35 points from John Neale with 34 points.
Kelly Cheong (37 points), Gordon Mackay (36) and Daryl Harrison (336) all won balls and Kelly also picked up the A grade nearest the pin ball.
PENNANT: Despite a comprehensive 5-0 win over Shepparton at Valley View on Sunday, our Pennant team has narrowly missed a berth in the play off by just half a win after Merrigum-Rushworth also completed a clean sweep of their opponents.
A big thanks to captain David Collins and the guys that represented the club during the season.
